CaseMap Tips and Tricks

Note: Since LexisNexis took over, software updates have been fast and furious. I know not all of you are moving quite as quickly on updating as they appear. I will focus on listing the two most recent versions: 7 and 8. If you need to know a tip or trick for an earlier version, let me know!

Topic: Working with your display

One of the very first things I do when I create then open a new case is immediately change the default CaseMap screen. To the far left, by default, is a side bar. To get to another part of the software to work, you click on the bar of your choice, then the item within that bar. It's too much clicking! There is another hidden "Shortcut List" you can have replace it, where all items/folders you might want to work with/in are listed in a collapsible tree structure. This is how you get it:

  1. Find the View drop-down list at the top of the screen and click on it.
  2. Choose Shortcut List. The Shortcut List will appear immediately to the right of the Side Bar.
  3. Go back to the View drop-down list and unclick Side Bar. This will close the Side Bar, and you are now working in a more efficient manner! You can expand or contract any folder you wish, whatever you tend to work with most often.
  4. Single-click on any item in the tree and get to work!
